Microstates of the D1-D5-P System
David Turton (Ohio State Univ.)

The D1-D5-P system contains the canonical example of a large black hole in string theory. I describe recent progress in our understanding of D1-D5-P microstates.
(a) I consider a D1-D5 bound state with a travelling wave, and review a calculation of its backreaction from disk amplitudes.
(b) I present a momentum-carrying perturbation on a D1-D5 background. The perturbation is dual to the action of a U(1) generator on a ground state of the D1-D5 CFT.
(c) I discuss current work on constructing gravitational descriptions of non-extremal microstates.
