	Hi Simon, if you do not impose flatness condition on the plaquette two-form field, there will be extra (unwanted) monopoles in the lattice formulation.. With the constraint, the lattice theory is locally same as SU(N) theory…. The lattice formulations done in the past, similar to what Arkady said, violates this condition. These two types of lattice theories are not locally equivalent.
