Quantitative Tests of Maldacena's Conjecture

Maldacena has conjectured a relation between certain string/M theory backgrounds involving AdS spaces and certain conformal theories. We assume that the AdS compactifications can be used to define conformal theories, and review the quantitative evidence for these conformal theories indeed being the same as their conjectured duals. There is substantial evidence that the theories are the same in the large N limit, but hardly any direct evidence for duality at finite N. The discussion is limited to theories in 2+1 dimensions or more.
